Free Access to FamilySearch Partners

As most have heard, members of The Church of Latter-day Saints now have free access to, find my past, and MyHeritage. While plenty of  people have posted about this, I still get a lot of people wondering how they can get access.

First, you will need an account, which if you do not already have, you can create by clicking here:

Once you have that account setup, click on the link below:

This is now available to all members as well as youth ages 13-17, at no cost.  Additional information can be found on the FamilySearch Blog

Rootstech 2015

Registration opened today. Register early and get the discounted rate. If you plan on attending any of the labs now is a good time to get into them. If the past is any indication, they fill up fast.

Also, for an additional $39 you can have full access to all the classes being offered at the FGS Conference that is being held in conjunction with Rootstech.

When registering, click on the orange box and get the list of paid options. Make sure you check both if you want the FGS option added. I missed that and had to contact Rootstech to get properly registered.

Access to FamilySearch Records

On his blog, Genealogy's Star, this morning, James Tanner pointed out this video from FamilySearch. It is a great review of the access that FamilySearch provides to records and the reason why there are, at times, limitations.

Relative Finder

Have you seen the new website, at least new to me, from the BYU Family History Technology Lab, Relative Finder?

Using the sites technology and the database at, it shows you your relationships to the world. Obviously an LDS site, it shows predefined groups such as Book of Mormon Witnesses, Current Apostles, Early LDS, Declaration (of Independence) Signers, etc. You can even create your own groups.

Interesting concept, now only if the FamilySearch database were accurate. Another reason, of many, to get the data cleaned up.

Check it out at Relative Finder, a FamilySearch account is required. .
