BillionGraves Eagle Project

A young man I know is doing an Eagle project for BillionGraves.

This is the letter he sent out. If you would like to help I am sure he would appreciate it.

Dear Family and Friends,

As you may have heard, I am working on my Eagle Scout Service Project.  I am requesting volunteers to help me.

My project is for the genealogy website Billion Graves.  I am organizing volunteers to index information from gravestones.  The pictures and place to do the indexing is all on the Billion Graves website.  Billion Graves is a partner site to Family Search.  If you would be willing to help me, please log into the website under my account.  I would appreciate it if you could do a 1/2 to an hour of indexing.  After you are done, if you would reply back to me with the amount of time spent so I can include it in my report.  I sincerely appreciate all the help and support from my family.

Here is a link to the website:   (or you can simply google: Billion Graves)

Once on the website, click the Login button (top right).

It will ask for Email and Password.  So that it gets credit to my project, please use my email and password (even if you have your own Billion Graves account).

        Password: weseagle

Once you login, you should see the "dashboard" screen.  Choose the tab: Transcribe.  A picture of a gravestone will load.  You simply insert the information that you can see from the gravestone.  If it is a bad picture or the gravestone is not readable, you can skip the gravestone and go to the next one.  There are hundreds of thousands to index, so there are many to choose from.  If there are more than one person list on the gravestone, click the add a person icon (middle left).  If there is military information, there is a button to click to add that information including a button to include a faith emblem (such as a cross).  Under Advanced Option, you can add other information from the marker such as maiden names, marriage dates.  There is a note icon (middle right) to add notes.  (There is also a button to click if there are other family members, such as brothers and sisters listed, who are not buried there.  Back on the main dashboard there is a tutorial and other information available if you need further assistance, or you can contact me and I will answer any questions you have.)

When you are done, simply hit save, and a new grave stone will appear.  When you are completely done, please logout.

My goal is to get 5000 names indexed during the month of April, so all the help that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for your love and support.
